W.K. Kellogg Foundation announced that it will award ORI’s Gulfsouth Youth Biodiesel Project (GYBP) a $137,435 grant to develop leadership and train older and out-of-school youth to understand the renewable energy industry through a combination of classroom work, hands-on training and applied field experiences. The program helps to educate and develop young leaders, promote environmental stewardship, and encourage social entrepreneurship.
The GYBP fills critical community needs by engaging young workers in the growing biodiesel industry and partnering them with a variety of businesses – including restaurants, universities, trucking companies, farmers and fishermen – to turn raw organic materials into eco-friendly, alternative fuels. As a social enterprise, the program is sustained by revenue generated from the sale of biodiesel fuel.
