Gulfsouth Youth Action Corps

Operation REACH created the Gulfsouth Youth Action Corps (GYAC) in 2006 to rebuild youth programming in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Today, in addition to addressing the shortage of quality out-of-school-time activities for at-risk children and youth in the Greater New Orleans area, GYAC members are mitigating the effects of the recent financial crisis on youth programs in Atlanta, GA, and Birmingham and Mobile, AL.

The GYAC comprises a national network of college-age AmeriCorps volunteers who face a simple mission: to engage, empower, and inspire youth to be leaders in their communities. Since its inception, more than 150 GYAC members have served over 12,000 youth across the South.

Operation REACH is currently looking for dedicated people to join the GYAC this summer in the greater Atlanta, Birmingham and New Orleans areas. To apply visit www.americorps.gov and search for the following listing IDs:

In Atlanta: 39324/39313
In Birmingham: 39325/35235
In New Orleans: 39315/39314
