Gulfsouth Youth Action Fund

The Gulfsouth Youth Action Fund (GYAF) is a youth-led philanthropy initiative that engages young people as leaders and empowers them with the resources to make strategic investments in their peers and communities. The 30 middle- and high school-age members of the Gulfsouth Youth Action Fund’s Youth Advisory Board come from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds, but they share a commitment to youth leadership in addressing the most challenging issues facing the Gulf South.

Each year, the Youth Advisory Board makes grants of $500 to $5,000 to youth-led, youth-driven programs and projects across the Gulf South. Since 2007, the Youth Advisory Board has given more than $20,000 in grants to organizations that foster communities in which young people can live, learn, lead, thrive, and grow

GYAF Youth Change Campaign
The Youth Change Campaign is a coin collection drive led by the middle- and high school-aged members of the Youth Advisory Board to raise funds for Gulfsouth Youth Action Fund grants and training. The 2011 Youth Change Campaign will kick off in April and will culminate in the Youth Change Awards Dinner in October 2011.

Community members can contribute to the Youth Advisory Board’s efforts by collecting donations from their families, friends, and coworkers. To request a coin collection bag or for more information about the Youth Change Campaign, contact Angela Anthony, Director of Communications, at aanthony@operationreach.org or (504) 529-1922 ext. 106.
